Here seen loading to the AAL KOBE in Antwerp – this is the largest piece, weighing in at 94tons, of a 340ton Herschel Scrap Shear on route to Karachi. Using a 600ton crane, the consignment was originally loaded to trailers in South Wales, for the initial journey to Antwerp. Given that the main vehicle had a Gross Train Weight in excess of 150tons, this was no mean feat in itself – the task being to ensure that everything arrived in good time, to alongside the departing, charter vessel.
As with all STG projects, detailed preparation was paramount – to include, as seen here, the shore cranes and stevedores in Antwerp. The complete loading operation being completed in under four hours, in comparison with a voyage time of approximately six weeks.
Yet another successful “turnkey” project – south Wales to Pakistan – for the STG Team.
