Almost to the Artic Circle
– but not quite. Fedje, an island with a population of 548, lies off the west cost of Norway. Not the most easily accessible place from the UK, even less so in the depths of winter. Originally loaded in Yeovilton, this military consignment is seen negotiating its final stage, on snow packed roads – before taking the ferry from the mainland.
Which brings to mind a project completed by STG some years ago – involving over sixty vehicles, for the armed forces, to just north of the Artic Circle – in preparation for winter manoeuvres. Making certain that every single vehicle satisfied the stringent, Norwegian winter road regulations – snow chains or studded tyres, amongst other things – was a mammoth task in itself.
In contrast, many years previously, STG were responsible for delivering a similar consignment for manoeuvres in Tunisia – involving the use of a chartered ferry from Marseille to Tunis. In this instance, the problem wasn’t the cold but the heat!
All in a days work for the STG team.
