Who would have thought that, some thirty years after it was demolished, the Specialist Transport Group would be moving a section of the Berlin Wall to the USA, on behalf of a private collector in Los Angeles.
The wall was first built in 1961, in order to separate East and West Germany. It is estimated that over 5.000 people attempted to cross the wall, with as many as 200 losing their lives. For this reason, it is commonly known as “the Wall of Shame”.
Although not a sculpture in the purest sense of the word, as a piece of art, it evokes thoughts and feelings for a period that should never be forgotten.
