The John Smiths Brewery was founded in Tadcaster, North Yorkshire.
Originating in Germany, these 6.00m diameter vessels started their journey on the River Rhine, before being transferred to an ocean going vessel for the short journey across the North Sea to Goole – so far, so good! This is where the real problems started!
After extensive route surveys, discussions with road authorities at both a local and national level, electricity and phone companies and the police – a solution was found – a route without any bridges, it just being a matter of taking down all the overhead cables!
In the photograph, along a particularly difficult stretch, this load is seen going against the traffic flow – our apologies to those whose Sunday morning journey was disrupted.
