Cargo: Aircraft Engine Test Facility.
From: Nottingham UK.
To: Stennis, Mississippi USA.
Charged with dismantling, shipping, renovating and reassembling a Launch Gantry for Rolls Royce Trent engines, the last thing we expected to hear was “look of for the rattlesnakes”.
Dismantling the unit in strict, sequential order was the first challenge. Once dismantled, everything was rushed “post-haste” to Prestwick, in order to connect with a cargo plane, to then arrive Atlanta, USA. Working closely with a local engineering company, the unit was then stripped, X-ray examined, repainted and reassembled – before final delivery to Stennis, Mississippi – the NASA rocket test facility.
Disregarding the fact that Stennis is a high security area, this is where the warning came into play – something that Pete Dafters, heading the the Specialist Transport Group Team, is unlikely to ever hear again.
