You may well ask. If you take a look at Google Maps, you will find that Tiree is a small island, measuring only 10 miles long and 5 miles wide, located off the west coast of Scotland. More remarkably, it is one of the sunniest places in the UK and hosts the Tiree Wave Classic for wind surfers, drawing participants from around the world every October.
Commissioned originally as an RAF base during WW2, Tiree Airport plays an important part in the link to the mainland, with daily flights to Glasgow. Needless to say, safety is paramount and therefore when the Specialist Transport Group were approached to deliver two new fire tenders to the airport from Spain, the team rose to the task. Here seen waiting at Oban for the last of several sea crossings, in a matter of hours, this tender will be on standby for every eventuality.
